Opossum claims cathouse

Strongsville police received an unusual call from a Benbow Road resident March 2 when he woke up to find some sort of marsupial in a container on his porch -- and blood nearby.

A report said the incident stemmed from the man's wife feeding stray cats.

It appeared a cat was attacked by an opossum, which was still in the cathouse on the porch.

An officer moved the opossum to the woods, and the residents dismantled the house/feeding station.

Bizarre ex-boyfriend

A 21-year-old Solon man is facing a theft charge after police say he stole his ex-girlfriend's phone after she refused to give him her phone number, according to Solon police.

Police say the ex-boyfriend showed up at the GetGo gas station in Solon to see his ex-girlfriend, who worked there.

The woman, a 19-year-old Oakwood Village resident, told him to leave after he asked for her new cell phone number. Instead of departing, he stole her iPhone.

Police later found the phone, valued at $400, near SOM Center Road.

Daring burglar comes up short

A burglar went to great lengths to steal about $10 worth of change Feb. 26 from a home in the 1200 block of Westminster in Cleveland Heights.

Somebody climbed onto a small roof structure and broke into one of the home's second-floor windows.

The burglar used another window to exit.

St. Patrick's antics

Shaker Heights Police nabbed a 20-year-old man who tried to shoplift corned beef, donuts and Swiss cheese from Heinen's grocery store on March 1.
