Cleveland Man Faces Sixth Drunken Driving Conviction

Beachwood Police arrested him on charges of speeding and operating a vehicle while intoxicated Sunday

Beachwood Police arrested a Cleveland man on charges of speeding, driving without a license and driving while drunk.

An officer spotted the man driving on the southbound lanes of Interstate 271 Sunday evening.

According to police, the man was driving 88 mph in a 60 mph zone, making unsafe lane changes and drifting into other lanes.

The officer stopped the man's car and asked him to take field sobriety tests, which he failed.

The man then took a breathalyzer test, which showed his breath-alcohol content was over twice the legal driving limit, police said.

The legal BAC level to drive is beneath 0.08. The driver's was more than 0.17, police said.

Furthermore, the man was under 15 active driver's license suspensions.

He was charged with speeding, driving with a suspended license, driving over marked lanes and a third-degree felony count of operating a vehicle while intoxicated.

He faces third-degree felony because he has five previous drunken driving convictions -- two of which were also felonies, according to police.
