According to court records, Sherman was scheduled to appear in court Tuesday, March 26 for a divorce trial.

Her June 2011 divorce filing included a motion for a restraining order against her husband, which was granted, as well as was one against her filed by her husband.

Update, 11:35 a.m.:

Rabbi Simcha Dessler, the educational director of the Hebrew Academy of Cleveland, where Sherman graduated in 1977, responded to her death:

"At a time when Jews across the globe gather with their loved ones to celebrate the Exodus, the inspirational journey from exile to redemption, this is a particular difficult tragedy for her family, for our community and for the Jewish people."

UPDATED at 9:50 a.m. Monday with information from the Cleveland Police Department.

Aliza Sherman, a Cleveland Clinic nurse from Beachwood, was killed last night in Cleveland.

Cleveland Police report that Sherman, 53, was heard screaming at 75 Erieview Plaza, near E. 12th and Lakeside, at around 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

She was found bleeding, with possible stab wounds, and taken to the MetroHealth Medical Center, where she died. 

Police say that Sherman still had her purse when she was found and it is unknown if anything was missing. Investigators have not determined an official cause of death, but are investigating this as a homicide.

According to her Facebook page, Sherman has four children. She graduated from the Hebrew Academy of Cleveland in 1977, and she worked at the Cleveland Clinic Beachwood Family Health & Surgery Center, who released this statement to Patch this morning:

“We are saddened by the tragic death of our long-time employee, Aliza, who was an invitro fertilization nurse. She has touched many lives and will always be remembered for her warmth and kindness. Our thoughts are with her family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.”
