Beachwood Home to State's Tallest Fire Truck

City now boasts 137-foot aerial ladder truck; purchase improves safety for region, city says.

The Beachwood Fire Department is now the proud owner of a 137-foot aerial ladder truck, the tallest in the state.

Mayor Merle Gorden and Fire Chief Patrick Kearns were on hand just before Monday's City Council meeting to show off the $863,000 fire truck.

“When making this investment, we considered not only what would best serve our community but also what could best improve the safety of the entire region,” said Gorden. “This 13-story ladder will help protect lives and property in Beachwood, and also our neighboring cities and counties, in times of distress.”

The city's fire department earlier this year became the only Northeast Ohio department to earn accreditation from the Commission on Fire Accreditation International.

“Beachwood’s Fire Department is continuously finding ways to meet and exceed the industry’s best practices and improve public safety in our community,“ said Kearns. “My team is grateful to have this new resource at our disposal.”
