Client Art Exhibit Inspired by the Music of Mozart

Stop by the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage to see a special display of artwork done by JFSA clients and PLAN members that's inspired by the music of Mozart! Exhibit runs April 24 - May 4, 2012.

In recognition of May as National Mental Health Month, an art exhibit featuring the work of JFSA Ascentia mental health clients and PLAN (Planned Lifetime Assistance Network of Northeast Ohio) members will run April 24 – May 4, 2012 at the Maltz Museum of Jewish Heritage located at 2929 Richmond Rd. in Beachwood, Ohio.  The exhibit will also appear for one day only at the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame on Wednesday, May 23, 2012.  Both exhibits are free and open to the public.

This year the inspiration for the artwork comes from Mozart.  The concept of “Mozart Meets Modern” is especially engaging with connection between creativity and mental illness – how exceptional creative accomplishments are often achieved from looking at the world in different ways that encourage exploration, discovery and expression without restriction.

Art therapy is an essential part of the interdisciplinary treatment program for JFSA clients and PLAN members.  Clients participated in the “Mozart Effect” project over four months, with a multimedia approach providing exposure to the culture of late 1700s Austria through movement, drawing, role play, and fashion.  Such stimulating, creative experiences give clients the opportunity to feel proud of their artistic talent, gain a better sense of self, and improve cognitive skills, all of which enhance their overall quality of life.
