Healthy & Delicious: Blue Point Grille

This week Healthy & Delicious visits Blue Point Grille

This week Healthy & Delicious visits Blue Point Grille located on the corner of West Sixth and St. Clair Avenues in Cleveland's historic warehouse district.

I have a soft spot for Blue Point Grille. Back in 2004, my then boyfriend (now husband) was accepted into Case Western Reserve University School of Law.  After spending the day looking for the right apartment, we were directed to Blue Point Grille by the concierge at the Ritz Hotel. Since then, whenever I am in the mood for quality seafood with great service, we go to Blue Point Grille.

To celebrate my 30-something birthday, my husband took me to Blue Point Grille.  This restaurant does not have many booths, so if you are trying to impress your lady or guy friend, I suggest calling and requesting one in advance.  I wanted to try the tuna entrée so I had “M” surprise me with a “Healthy & Delicious” appetizer.

“M” brought me the seared scallops. This consisted of two succulent and perfectly cooked pieces of scallop served with acorn squash purée, apple, radish, and scallion-walnut pesto.  Now I want you to imagine how gorgeous the bright orange squash purée and the scallion-walnut green pesto looked against the seared scallops.  If the visual description isn’t enough to make your mouth water, then you need to go there and try them for yourself. These were, hands down, among the best tasting, yet “Healthy & Delicious” scallops I have ever tasted. In fact, I would have been happier with two orders of the scallops instead of the tuna.  Not because the tuna was bad, but the scallops were just that good.

Next to clams, mussels, and oysters, scallops are among the most popularly consumed mollusks, as they are both “Healthy & Delicious.” When eaten with other “Healthy & Delicious” foods, the nutrients in scallops may contribute to cardiovascular health.

Scallops are high in protein and low in fat, calories, and cholesterol. They are a good source of omega-3 fatty acids, B12, and minerals including magnesium, phosphorus, and potassium. A 2-ounce serving (two sea scallops) provides about 66 calories, 14 grams protein, 2 to 3 grams fat, and 32 milligrams cholesterol.

Although scallops do not contain fiber, the acorn squash purée, apple, radish, and scallion-walnut pesto took care of that. In addition to the protein (scallops), this appetizer included veggies and fruit which made me a happy camper!

It is not surprising that this restaurant has been voted Cleveland’s Best Seafood Restaurant since its debut in 1998.

Note: Mix things up: order an appetizer as your entrée and a side salad as your appetizer. This will keep you on the “Healthy & Delicious” track.
