Start The New Year Off Right!

I hope you are having a good start to the New Year.  As this is usually the time when most of us make resolutions for the coming year, I want to challenge you instead to make an “intention”; that is, to create a vision for 2014 that allows you to achieve LASTING change in your life. Here are some ways to do this:

1.     Relax your mind.  Go to a quiet spot and really think about what you want.

2.     Be clear about what you want. A good way to tell if it is truly something you desire is if you feel enthusiastic when you think about it.

3.     Ask for what you want, and visualize it as if you already have it.

4.     Feel it as though you are receiving what you want at this moment.

5.     Show gratitude. Write down all the positives that you have manifested.

I am currently reading, “Ask and It Is Given, Learning to Manifest Your Desires”, by Esther and Jerry Hicks. The book emphasizes the Law of Attraction, which is the belief that “like attracts like” and recognizes that by focusing on positive or negative thoughts, one can bring about positive or negative results.  So if you are primarily thinking about the things you desire, your life experience will reflect those things.  Similarly, if you are primarily thinking about the things you do not want, your life experience will reflects those things. I can totally attest to this when I was diagnosed with cancer almost 16-years ago.

At the time, I felt like I was running in a million different directions, trying to balance motherhood, career, my relationship with my husband, while completely throwing self-care out the window.  Instead of focusing on all the blessings that I had in my life, I was focusing on how stressed out I felt.  I even told my husband that if something didn’t change I was going to get sick.  Talk about attracting a negative result!

But, that being said, I know that my cancer diagnosis was a message, telling me loud and clear that I needed to make some changes in my life. In fact, although it was difficult at the time, I truly see it as blessing.  I know that may seem hard for many to understand, but as a result of my diagnosis, all the wonderful things in my life became magnified.  I enjoyed nothing more than being a mother to our son and we were so blessed to adopt our second son less than a year later. I also made a conscious decision to stop putting my wants and needs on the back burner. I was no longer going to do things that didn’t serve me or do things because of other people’s expectations of me.  I actually felt liberated!

One of the other biggest blessings that cancer gave me, is the calling to work with the most amazing people who are doing everything it takes to manifest a healthy, fulfilling, and purposeful life.  They have taken their life circumstance, which at one time may have seemed bleak, and have become wellness warriors!  I feel honored to be a part of their journey and know that I learn as much from them as they learn from me.
