No. 3 Top Story of 2012: Chardon Victim was Grandson of BMS Wrestling Coach

Daniel Parmertor was killed in a shooting at Chardon High School. He was the grandson of Beachwood's Domenick Iammarino.

While most in the region were affected by the shooting at Chardon High School earlier this year, the tragedy hit very close to home for a Beachwood Middle School coach.

Domenick Iammarino, the school's wrestling coach, was the grandfather of Daniel Parmertor, 16, who was killed during the shooting.

After the shooting, Superintendent Rich Markwardt sent an email to Beachwood City Schools staff, coaches and alumni to share the tragic news of Iammarino's connection.

"He’s been in Beachwood longer than an other teacher and everyone knows Coach 'I,'" said Athletic Director Ryan Peters. "It’s a very tragic day throughout the country and in our community."

Iammarino started the Beachwood High School wrestling program in 1965, said Peters, who added that Iammarino coached his own brother at Beahwood High School. Peters coached the high school team with Iammarino for nine years.

"He's one of the most knowledgeable coaches in the country, in my opinion," Peters added.

Iammarino's been named to the Ohio Wrestling Hall of Fame and led a long, decorated career. Find more information about him at his Collinwood High School alumni page.
