Plans on Track for UH Rehab Hospital

The $17 million hospital will open in October

Plans remain on track for the University Hospitals' latest Beachwood Hospital.

In a joint venture with Nashville, Tenn.-based Centerre Healthcare Corp., UH will open an in October at Green and Harvard Roads. It's a $17 million project and is expected to provide 150 jobs to the city.

Though he hasn't heard many other details about the project, Beachwood Economic Development Director James A. Doutt is excited about UH's desire to expand.

"I think it's fantastic," he said. "(UH) is a great employment base to have in your community, when you think about the services they perform and the quality of those jobs."

The facility will include 40 beds on 50,000 square feet. Centerre selected Cogdell Spencer Inc. to develop the hospital with plans from architectural firm Earl Swensson Associates Inc. Area residents can expect services for people recovering from neurological, orthopaedic and cardiac conditions and traumatic injuries.

The project is less than two miles from . Doutt said having two UH facilities in the city gives Beachwood an important role in the health care industry's regional impact.

"When you think about the health care industry as a whole, the fact is that Northeast Ohio is a global hub for health care, that's not overstating it at all.

"It's one of the business sectors that is in a growth mode. Part of that is due to the fact that America is growing older. The need for medical services will increase accordingly. Top-shelf services like University Hospitals, to have those readily available  is really a plus for Beachwood."
