October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month and whether you love to shop, attend events, walk or run, there are tons of different ways to support the cause. Check out the list below of opportunities to go pink in Beachwood and beyond:
- Saks Fifth Avenue in Beachwood will host an evening of shopping on Oct. 18 to support The Gathering Place. The event will include deals and live music. All proceeds will go to The Gathering Place. Two percent of sales will also support The Gathering Place from Oct. 18-22.
- The University of Akron Law Association for Women's Walk for a World Without Breast Cancer — 10 a.m., Sunday at University of Akron Field House, 289 S. Union Street, Akron. Click here for more information about joining a team or making a donation.
- Harnass the Power of Hope — 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Oct. 15 at DeLuca’s Place in The Park, 6075 Middle Ridge Road, Lorain. The Cleveland Clinic Lorain Campus hosts a girl's night out with breast cancer specialists and survivors walking the runway. The event is free. For more information, call 877.234.FITT.
- If you’re looking for a night full of fun, music and dance, then the Pink Carpet Gala, organized by the JD Breast Cancer Foundation in Cleveland might be your kind of event. To celebrate and honor survivors, the gala will also have makeovers.
There are even more ways to spread breast cancer awareness this month by supporting national organizations that are fighting for a cure.
Research centers like Susan G. Komen for the Cure are selling pink ribbon merchandise and it’s a twofer — retail therapy and donating to a cause that affects millions.
You can also support breast cancer research by affixing a special stamp to your mail. The U.S. Postal Service has been selling a stamp commemorating breast cancer awareness for the past 15 years. The agency has raised $75 million so far for research programs at the National Institutes of Health and the Department of Defense.
The American Cancer Society’s annual Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk is organized nationwide and so far more than 8 million people have walked for this cause and raised about $460 million.
