Women’s Torah Yoga
Wednesdays, June 19, July 24, and August 21 7pm
$15/$12 Maltz Museum Members per class in advance

By integrating Jewish study with physical practice, breathing and meditation, the yoga practice becomes an opportunity for contemplative prayer, Torah in action, and a Lech Lecha journey of going to oneself to find connection with God. Join us for a 3 session class with Marni Task and Ruchi Koval.  Open to women only.  

It’s a Bird…It’s a Plane…It’s a Superman Celebration!

Join the fun as we celebrate Superman’s 75th birthday! The morning brings a kid’s comic making workshop with cartoonist Teri Libenson, author of The Pajama Diaries. Stay for a screening of Superman II at 1:00pm or head out on Lolly the Trolley for a history of Superman in Cleveland tour. Also at the Museum will be a Gift of Life bone marrow registry drive. Maybe you can be a “super” hero!

Vivian Mann, Director of the Master’s Program in Jewish Art and Visual Culture at the Jewish Theological Seminary, presents a fascinating illustrated talk on Jewish Islamic art and the recognition of minorities in art history. This program is in partnership with the Laura and Alvin Siegal Lifelong Learning Program.

Did you know the original horses on Cleveland’s favorite carousel were carved by Jewish Immigrants in Pennsylvania? John Frato, the “guru” of all things Euclid Beach, discusses the history of the carousel which is currently being restored and installed at the Western Reserve Historical Society.  Also on hand will be a few horses for you to see up close and the East Coast Custard food truck!

Lucy’s Sweet Surrender has been baking delicious cakes, strudels, bread and pastries for over 50 years and the sweets are better than ever.  Owner Michael Feigenbaum, shares photos and stories from the past and lead a hands-on demonstration where you can assemble and decorate (and them eat!) your own pastry.  

A Ride Back in Time

Did you know you can ride a dedicated bike path from the Maltz Museum all the way to Lake Erie? Pedal the “Lake to Lake” trail through Beachwood, Shaker Heights, Cleveland Heights and University Circle to the old Jewish neighborhood of Glenville. We’ll stop to discuss some history along the way and end up with a visit to the Hebrew Garden in the Cleveland Cultural Gardens. Too tired to make the trek back? We’ll get you (and your bike) back to the Museum. Co-Sponsored by Bike Cleveland.

Purchase in advance and save $2 Celebrate the beginning of a sweet New Year! About six years ago David Rzepka agreed to let a co-worker put a beehive on his family farm. He didn't plan to be responsible for it, but when life events kept his co-worker from tending to it, he became a beekeeper. Today they produce a full line of natural products and in addition give back through our charitable arm, SweetYear.org.

Rust Belt Chic: The Cleveland Anthology, edited by Richey Piiparinen and Anne Trubek, provides an inside-out snapshot of the city, containing contributions by established authors such as Connie Schultz and Michael Ruhlman as well as 47 others. Rust Belt Chic tells stories about failure, conflict, growth and renewal. Put together, these stories create a new narrative about Cleveland that incorporates but deepens and widens the familiar tropes of manufacturing, stadiums and comebacks.  Richey Piiparinen will be here to discuss and sign the book. 

Movie Night: Everything Is Illuminated

A fictionalized version of the story of Betty Gold’s hometown of Trochenbrod, a young Jewish American man endeavors to find the woman who saved his grandfather during World War II with the help of an eccentric local. A sort-of companion to Lost Town.  Betty will be available for a Q & A after the film.
