Experience Contemporary Tel Aviv Without Leaving Beachwood

A special exhibition, 'Walking Tel Aviv,' to open next month at the Maltz Museum

It can be enlightening to walk the streets of a city with an artist, whose active and curious mind enables you to see things in a different way.

And that is what a new exhibition, Walking Tel Aviv, promises when it opens in July at the

Fine arts photographer David Bergholz and his wife spent two weeks in this bustling, cosmopolitan hub of finance, performing arts, tourism and business. And he took more than 700 photos, distilling them down to about 40 images that provide a fascinating and sometimes revealing glimpse into the city as it stands at this moment.

As Judi Feniger, executive director of the Maltz Museum, said, “David’s photographs enable the viewer to experience Tel Aviv though an artist’s eye. His observations of people and places — from active beaches to historic neighborhoods and from pristine modern buildings to graffiti-covered walls — capture the essence of Tel Aviv."

Essentially, the exhibition updates the existing photographs of Tel Aviv that reside in the museum’s permanent collection. “But," Feniger added, “these new photos have been specially edited through the curatorial process, making it a distinctive experience.”

Bergholz has exhibited his images at SPACES, Heights Art, Murray Hill Galleries and many other locations in the area. His work is represented by the Bonfoey Gallery. Formerly, Bergholz served as executive director of the George Gund Foundation in Cleveland for 14 years.
