Patch Picks: Summer Camps

Patch rounded up five great summer camps in the area

Looking for a great camp your kid will enjoy? Here are five excellent choices being offered in Beachwood.

1. Kidz Camp

Location:

Time: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dates: June 13 to July 29 (Seven sessions). No camp on July 4

Limits: 190 campers per session

A camp that gives kindergartners through second-graders a chance to practice art, play sports and participate in musical activities. There are also special theme days, field trips, games, camp crafts and nature adventures.

Fees: Beachwood residents can register before March 11 and only pay $175-$550 depending on number of sessions. After March 11, registration open to anyone at $195-$620 for residents, $295-$724 for non-residents. Register through the Beachwood Community Center.

 2. Bison Day Camp

Location:

Time: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Dates: June 13 to July 29 (seven sessions). No camp on July 4.

Limits: 150 campers per session

An activity-based camp for third- through sixth-graders. Campers get to select from group activities of a specific interest that include swimming, art, field trips and sports.

Fees: Beachwood residents can register before March 11 and only pay $175-$550 depending on number of sessions. After March 11, registration open to anyone at $195-$620 for residents, $295-$724 for non-residents. Register through the Beachwood Community Center.

 3. Sports Camp

Location: and schools

Time: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m.

Session 1: June 13-24

Session 2: June 27-July 8 (No camp on July 4)

Session 3: July 11-22

Limits: 175 campers per session

Divided into three two-week sessions, sports camp emphasizes one sport per each session with a total of nine major sports from which to choose. Other activities include bowling, batting cages and swimming in addition to field trips and intramural sports.

Fees: Beachwood residents can register before March 11 and only pay $275, $415 or $540 depending on the number of sessions. After March 11, registration open to anyone at $295, $445 and $590 for residents and $410, $630 and $775 for non-residents. Register through the Beachwood Community Center.

 4. Beachwood Recreation Theater Camp

Location:

Time: Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Session 1: June 13-July 8

Session 2: July 11-July 29

Limits: 55 campers per session

Campers will attend workshops with a focus on acting, dance, vocal performance and crafts. session one culminates with a production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory while session two culminates with Songs About Rainbows.

Fees: Session 1 is $500 for residents, $550 for non-residents. Session 2 is $375 for residents, $425 for non-residents. Both sessions are $825 for residents, $925 non-residents. Register through the Beachwood Community Center.

 5. School Of Rock Cleveland’s Summer Camp

Location: Rocky River or Highland Heights

Session 1: June 13-17 (Highland)

Session 2: July 11-15 (Rocky River)

Session 3: July 18-22 (Highland)

Session 4: July 25-29 (Rocky River)

Session 5: August 1-5 (Highland)

Limits: 20 musicians per session.

 This camp offers classes from professional musicians specializing in guitar, bass, vocals, keyboards and drums. Each session lasts a week and culminates in a live performance.

Fees: Early Bird (before 4/2/11), $361.25. Regular (after 4/2/11), $425.
