Get Out: Torah Yoga, Bird Feeding and Nordstrom Extravaganza

Plan your week around these events for kids and adults

FEED THE BIRDS CLASS

Where/When:  / Saturday, May 7 from 10 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: This class by instructor Judi Strauss will teach everything you need to know about feeding the birds in your own back yard, including what foods attract which birds, at what height to put your bird feeder to attract certain birds and how to plan a bird-friendly landscape.

NORDSTROM FRAGRANCE EVENT AND SHOE FAIR

Where/When:  / Saturday, April 30

Why Go: Nordstrom is having an action-packed Saturday for shoppers. All day long the Fragrance Event will be taking place where fragrance experts will help customers find their signature scent while the newest launches and gift sets will be on hand. Customers who spend $125 will receive a tote bag with matching coin purse. Then from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the newest shoes from ECCO will be shown off by an ECCO representative.

Price: Events are free.

TORAH YOGA

Where/When:  / Friday 5 to 6:30 p.m.; Saturday morning, 9:45 to noon; Saturday afternoon, 4 to 5:30 p.m.; and Sunday, 10 a.m. to noon.

Why Go: It’s being called a whole new way to experience Shabbat and yoga. Beginning Friday, an introductory class will prepare participants for what’s to come. Then Saturday morning, a service combined with yoga will include meditation, chant and traditional davvening. Rabbi Myriam Klotz will lead the service. A Saturday afternoon service will feature Restorative Yoga, involving gentle stretching and meditative breathing.  The weekend excursion ends Sunday with teachings about personal and spiritual growth through character traits brought to light through yoga.

HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE

Where/When: B’nai Jeshurun Congregation / Sunday, May 1 at 2 p.m.

Why Go: Open to the public, this event will honor the 6 million Jews killed during the Holocaust. The program takes place on the eve of Yom Hashoa, or Holocaust Remembrance Day, the holiday on the Jewish calendar where Jews honor those who perished. The event is coordinated by the Kol Israel Foundation, Sisterhood Generations and the Mandel Jewish Community Center of Cleveland, with support by the Jewish Federation of Cleveland.

Price: Free

DANCING AROUND THE WORLD

Where/When: The Children’s Museum of Cleveland / Saturday at 11 a.m.

Why Go: The Children’s Museum will take kids on a voyage around the world, experiencing several cultures through the way they dance. Ballet, Bollywood, Irish Step and the Mexican Hat will be learned and discussed through the eyes of the people who dance them.
