Beachwood Superintendent Rich Markwardt will officially retire this year, but may work for the district for two more years after that. The board voted last night to add a clause to Markwardt's contract that would allow him to be re-employed by the school district after his June 30 retirement. Markwardt has been with the district since the 2004-2005 school year. Before that, he worked as superintendent of Berkshire Local Schools in Ohio and in administrator positions at the Ravenna City School District and the Osnaburg Local School District. The Beachwood City Schools Board of Education is expected to consider a revised collective bargaining agreement with the Beachwood Educational Interpreters Union at tonight's meeting. The Beachwood Board of Education's meeting agendas and supplemental materials have been moved to an online hosting site. The district contracted with Board Docs for about $10,000 to host materials online for the board meetings. For residents, this means that the agendas for meetings can still be found online. For board members, this means that dozens of pages that was printed out biweekly for meetings will be at their fingertips. Two TVs also display the agenda and the votes for the members of the audience in real time during the meetings. The new system is more efficient and transparent, …
The Beachwood Board of Education elected its 2013 president and vice president at Monday’s meeting. Brian Weiss, who has served on the board since 2004, will serve as president for the second consecutive year. “As one of the newer members of the board, your guidance has been exceptional,” board member Steve Rosen told Weiss during the meeting. Superintendent Rich Markwardt called Weiss confident, altruistic and respectful. “No one has been as compassionate as Brian, as level-headed, always wanting to do the right thing,” member David Ostro said.
