Name: Wayne Lawrence Occupation: Executive Director, Beachwood Chamber of Commerce; Director, Beachwood Convention & Visitors Bureau What's your favorite thing about your job? I get to interact with businesses, event planners and travelers and show them why Beachwood is such a great City to live, work, play and visit. Everyone time I speak of the wonderful amenities, world-class organizations and innovative businesses we have here, it reminds me of how fortunate I am to represent this community. Name: Sherry Miller Occupation: Principal, Hilltop Elementary School Hometown: Southfield, Mich. Proudest accomplishment: I am most proud of my own personal children. I have three children, ages 28, 26, and 18. (I also have a wonderful daughter-in-law.) My husband and I have created a strong and positive balance between home and work life. Our children and family are our priority. We have been very involved in their activities while they have been growing up, including sports, theater, dance, and volunteerism. Our family has participated in many philanthropies together, including The …
Name: James Doutt Occupation: Economic Development Director, City of Beachwood Hometown: Medina Favorite thing about his job: “Economic development is my passion. It’s my wheelhouse, so to speak. The thing I like most about it is the work of economic development is never done. It’s evolving every day.” Proudest accomplishment: His creation of the Medina County University Center. The center — the county’s first brick-and-mortar university presence — is funded solely through grants and contributions, he added. “I hope it will be there for generations to come.” Why he went into his field: "I’m a…
Name: Karen Carmen Hometown: Cleveland Occupation: Community Services Director, City of Beachwood Favorite thing about her job: That's easy...our seniors! I love staging events for them. Thinking of an idea, working on making it happen and seeing people enjoy your efforts is always a thrill. Proudest accomplishment: Most recent proudest moment is the 5th annual Green Dream last April. We had 4,500 attendees and over 120 vendors.   My all-time favorite is Opening Day at the Beachwood Family Aquatic Center. Council and the Mayor poured water from all the seven continents into the pool. It took …
Name: Ed Klein Occupation: Beginning Aug. 1, he will take over as the principal of Beachwood High School. Right now he’s an assistant principal at Euclid High School. Hometown: Klein is from the Pittsburgh area (and yes, he’s a Pittsburgh football fan — “But at least I’m not a Michigan fan,” he points out). He attended John Carroll University and has lived in Northeast Ohio ever since. Favorite thing about his job: “The best part about my job is just working with kids,” said Klein. He added that he loves working with large groups, as well as tailoring education plans for individual kids. …
