Beachwood City Schools will hire a part-time worker to handle day-to-day media, public relations and design. The district is reviewing applicants for a Public Relations, Media & Design Manager this week, said spokesperson Doug Levin. The position was originally approved by the Board of Education in 2011, but was never filled. Levin will supervise the manager, who is taking some of his responsibilities while he spends more times on marketing and other communications duties, he said. The position was originally approved by the Board of Education in 2011, but was never filled. Three resolutions …
An anonymous donor gave $13,000 to the Beachwood High School baseball team this week. The donation was approved by the Board of Education at its Sept. 26 meeting. Coach Ben Singer said the money would fund the team's spring training, which was also approved at the meeting. Training will be at the ESPN Spring Training Facility in Orlando at the end of March. The athletes are paying the remaining costs for the trip — $340 each plus food.
The Beachwood High School track will last about three years longer with a $16,640 repair that the Board of Education approved at Monday night's meeting. The track has small divots and pieces missing, said Superintendent Rich Markwardt. Though an athletic fields study recently concluded that the track is safe to use, the repairs will improve the track's aesthetics and make for a better running surface that will last for about three years, said Markwardt. He added that the district intends to consider installing a new track, the possibility of installing artificial turf on the football field …
Beachwood City Schools’ finances are safe for now despite the S&P’s decreased credit rating for the federal government. Treasurer Michele Mills gave a short report at Monday’s Board of Education meeting. The federal credit rating downgrade could have affected the district in two ways, said Mills: the value of its stocks portfolio could have decreased, and the district’s credit rating could have decreased. But neither outcome occurred. The district’s stocks portfolio — which, by state law, includes secure, liquid, long-term investments — saw decreased interest rates and increased prices, said …
Beachwood City Schools’ assistant superintendent has been bumped up to a superintendent spot in Central Ohio. Philip Wagner will step into the superintendent position at Licking Heights Local School District Board of Education in Licking County next month. The Beachwood City School Board will vote on a resolution to accept Wagner’s resignation tonight. As previously reported, a reorganization of two of Beachwood City Schools’ top administrative positions – including eliminating the assistant superintendent spot – that is expected to save the district about $50,000 annually was approved by the…

Kenneth Veon, a current third-grade teacher, is expected to fill the position. District spokesperson Doug Levin said that the board is in the process of …
The Beachwood City Schools Board of Education awarded Mr. Excavator, Inc. its high school renovation project early site work at last night’s meeting. The bid, at $1.3 million, came in at the lowest of eight bids but exceeds the district’s published budget by $94,000, a drop in the $35.6 million bucket budgeted for the whole project. The work will be in the building’s foundations, underground utilities and some demolition. Turner Construction Company, which is carrying out the plans for the district, recommended the bid. The Board voted unanimously to accept the bid.
Beachwood City Schools approved money for additional investigations to determine whether all students attending schools in the district meet residency requirements. In August, the district approved funding for 30 days for two investigators to confirm residency in the district. One, contracted through the Geauga County Educational Services Center, requested three more days to complete this school year’s work. He costs the district about $400 per day. The board’s action, unanimously approved Monday, allocates $1,200 for further investigations, should they be necessary. The district employs two …
