Wind Knocks Down BHS Construction Site Trusses

No injuries reported

No one was injured when a section of wooden trusses collapsed at Beachwood High School today, Superintendent Rich Markwardt said.

The trusses, frameworks that supported the roof during construction, collapsed because of high winds, and the Beachwood Fire Department and the construction company inspected the trusses and deemed them safe after the incident.

As a precaution, workers stayed off the trusses for the remainder of the day.

Markwardt sent a memo to parents and staff around 5 p.m. today about the incident.

"The loud sound of the trusses laying over in a domino effect startled students and staff who were in the high school building nearest to the incident," Markwardt wrote.

The trusses were in an unoccupied section of the building.
