On ensuring juveniles not waive their right to counsel without consulting an attorney: 2.7 million of our children’s adult parents are incarcerated so you are going to need in the court system an adequate representation to support those children when their parents are otherwise not in the home, so yes, I would support that and any other changes that would make the juvenile system more adequate and fair.

On overcharging: I would definitely welcome the ACLU and the GCC to the table … I wanted to also get a collaborative effort with the prosecutors and the police officers [and enact training to prevent overcharging].

On racial disparity: I intend to keep data records of the victim’s race, the defendants’ race, the offense and through a step-by-step process, follow hat case … and publish that report.

On adult and juvenile diversion: First initiative programs and also drug treatment programs has to be at the forefront of the prosecutor’s office. Having been a former police office I know all too well that when you arrest somebody you have to know, is this a drug addict, or is this a drug dealer?

Quotable: I ask you to support [me] in your vote to be that diversity and creativity and versatility that’s needed for Cuyahoga County.

Closing: I know that the prosecutor’s office needs someone that is compassionate about the law and law enforcement. I also want to bridge the gap with law enforcement officials so that law enforcement and assistant prosecutors can work collectively in order to have just criminal cases in our system, and have just convictions, and fair and smart convictions, and leave the jails to the people who need to be in jail.
