Council to Consider Apartments, Farmers Markets

Planning and Zoning issues sent back to council for tonight's meeting

City Council will revisit several measures referred back to it from Planning and Zoning at tonight’s meeting.

Measures under consideration would allow an apartment building at Green Road and Chagrin Boulevard and another apartment complex on George Zieger Drive.

Planning and Zoning also recommended that Council consider a zoning amendment that would allow farmers markets in Beachwood.

Mayor Merle Gorden said that the Cleveland Clinic requested permission to hold a farmers market as part of a nutrition program.

The ordinance to allow farmers markets would restrict the size of the booths, signs and what can be sold. It would also require vendors to get approval from the city planner and police chief before selling and limit the markets to one day per week.

The Cleveland Clinic has a weekly farmers market in several Northeast Ohio communities, including one in Strongsville that began in July.

Council members will vote on two more readings and hold a public hearing before approval.

Council meets at 7 p.m. at Council Chambers at City Hall. Watch Beachwood Patch for more information after the meeting.
