A committee will discuss a possible ban on most cell phone use for drivers at a meeting Thursday morning.

The ordinance was first presented at a city council meeting last month. It would be more strict than the law recently passed by state lawmakers and ban all cell phone use except with hands-free devices and voice commands for all drivers.

Council referred it to the Safety & Public Health Committee for further consideration.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will be at 8:45 a.m. in the Mayor's Conference Room at City Hall Thursday.
