Chardon Shooting Victim Confirmed as Grandson of BMS Wrestling Coach

Share condolences with Domenick Iammarino and the family of Daniel Parmertor

The student killed the Chardon High School shooting has been identified by school officials as the grandson of a beloved longtime Beachwood High School wrestling coach.

Daniel Parmertor, 16, was a junior at the Auburn Career Center in Geauga County, according to WKYC. He died of gunshot wounds.

His grandfather is Domenick Iammarino, according to an email Superintendent Rich Markwardt sent to Beachwood City Schools staff, coaches and alumni this afternoon.

"He’s been in Beachwood longer than an other teacher and everyone knows Coach 'I,'" said Athletic Director Ryan Peters. "It’s a very tragic day throughout the country and in our community."

Iammarino started the Beachwood High School wrestling program in 1965, said Peters, who added that Iammarino coached his own brother at Beahwood High School. Peters coached the high school team with Iammarino for nine years.

"He's one of the most knowledgeable coaches in the country, in my opinion," Peters added.

Iammarino's been named to the Ohio Wrestling Hall of Fame and led a long, decorated career. Find more information about him at his Collinwood High School alumni page.

Iammarino is now wrestling and cross country head coach at Beachwood Middle School, and works as an instructional aid at the high school. Peters said he believes Iammarino will likely continue to coach next school year.

"This is tragic news. Please keep Dom and his family in your thoughts and prayers," wrote Peters in his email to coaches and alumni.

Oh my...this is absolutely heartbreaking! Coach I...you are one of those rare people who leave a lasting impression on everyone you encounter. I will always remember going to you to get pumped up and focussed before tennis matches...and you were the wrestling coach! I am so sorry that you and your family must experience such pain! Please know that the entire Beachwood family has you in our prayers. You have always coached people to feel strength at their weakest moments. I can only pray that somehow you can find such strength during this unimaginable time!

Sensless and hearbreaking. Our 3 daughters and my nieces and nephew were in your watch at BHS and I had the pleasure of playing senior softball with you on Babes of 1916 in Solon in 2010. This tragedy is so close to us all. We feel your loss.
