Beachwood Schools Update Math Course Materials
The Board of Education unanimously approved the measure for new textbooks at Monday's meeting.
The Beachwood Board of Education approved new math textbooks at Monday’s meeting.
The books will be used in kindergarten through fifth grade classes, in middle school and in high school statistics.
The books are compatible with iPads and other new technology that the district is exploring, said spokesperson Doug Levin. Students complete some coursework online.
They are also in line with the district’s achievement objectives for students, he added.
A committee of teachers and staff worked to evaluate and recommend the texts to the board.
One book used previously be the district was missing a concept that’s included in the Ohio Achievement Assessment, which prompted the initiative to re-evalutate the math course materials.
These are in line with new standards, called "Common Core", that the state of Ohio will enact in the 2013-2014 school year.
